Privacy notice
Akam Pty Ltd (ABN 82 687 676 099) handles personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This notice explains what we collect, why, and how to reach us about it. Our Privacy Policy sets out the commitments behind it and is available on request.
What we collect, and why
We collect personal information from people who enquire about our services, from our customers and suppliers, and from the people who work with us. Usually that is names, contact details, the organisation someone works for, and whatever they choose to tell us or send us about the work they need done.
Personal information also reaches us inside the data our customers give us to analyse. We treat that as the customer's property.
We use it to answer enquiries, deliver our services, run the business and meet our legal obligations. We do not use it for anything else, and we do not sell, rent or trade it.
How we collect it, and how we hold it
We collect it directly from you wherever we can: when you contact us, when you send us documents, and in the course of doing work for you. Our website records basic usage information through cookies, which you can block in your browser.
We hold it in access-controlled business systems, available only to the people who need it, and we keep it only as long as we need it. Some of the providers who run those systems operate outside Australia, including in the United States, so information may be stored or processed overseas. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to see it stays protected to the standard the Australian Privacy Principles require.
We share it only with the providers who run our systems, so they can run them, or where the law requires it.
Spam protection
Our contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps us tell genuine enquiries from automated abuse. To do this, reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google for analysis. This use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. If you think we have mishandled it, tell us what happened. Either way, email admin@akam.com.au and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
Changes to this notice
We update this notice when what we do changes.
